No One Can Be Compared to the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.)

The Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.) possess a uniquely unparalleled stature, both in the depth of their essence and in their divine ranks. This stature is so elevated that even the Prophets cannot be compared to them, let alone anyone else, according to the narrations.

Here are a few reliable traditions.

1. Holders of Divine Secrets

They possess secrets and knowledge that no high-ranking angel, messenger, or a tested believer can bear.

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "O Abu Muhammad, indeed, we possess a secret from the secrets of Allah and a knowledge from the knowledge of Allah, which neither a near angel, nor a Messenger sent by Allah, nor a believer whose heart Allah has tested for faith can bear."

2. The Nest of the Divine Will

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: "We, the Ahl al-Bayt, possess a stature that we cannot even express, for you lack the capacity and endurance for it."

Mufaddal asked: "Do you mean knowledge?"

The Imam replied: "Knowledge is the lowest of those stations." He then added: "Verily, the Imam is the nest (Wakr) of the Will of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic."

3. Above the Desires of the Prophets

This station is so high that even desiring their ranks was forbidden to the Prophets by Allah Almighty.

And Allah said: 'Do not approach this tree' — seeking thereby the rank of Muhammad (s.a.w.a.) and the progeny of Muhammad (a.s.). For Allah, Mighty and Majestic be He, had singled them out for this rank above all others.

4. Peerless and Unmatched

Numerous narrations emphasise that the Imam is unique, solitary, and possesses no equal, match, or peer:

Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (a.s.) said: "...the Imam is unique in his era; none can approach his stature, no scholar can equal him, no substitute can be found for him, and he has no match or peer. He is uniquely designated with all virtue."

Reference: Al-Kaafi, vol. 1, p. 201, Imam Ali al-Naqi (a.s.) said: "No one can reach him, no one can surpass him, and no predecessor can precede him."

5. Prohibition of Comparing Anyone to the Infallibles

In addition to frequently transmitted narrations demonstrating the absolute superiority of the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.) over all creation, numerous traditions explicitly forbid comparing non-infallibles to the Infallibles:

Ameerul Momineen Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) says: "None from this Ummah can be compared to the Aale Muhammad (a.s.), and those who are perpetually indebted to their blessings can never be equated with them. They are the foundation of religion."

Reference: Nahj al-Balaaghah, p. 47, Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) in another of his sermons said: "None can be equated with us — those upon whom our blessings flow."

Reference: Al-Mustarshid fi Imamat Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.), p. 399, Ameerul Momineen (a.s.) said: "We are the Ahl al-Bayt; no one can be compared to us."

Reference: Oyoon-o-Akhbaar al-Reza (a.s.), vol. 2, p. 66, Imam Sadiq (a.s.): "Indeed, we are the Ahl al-Bayt; no human can be compared to us."

Reference: Maani al-Akhbaar, p. 179, Imam Baqir (a.s.) said: "No human being can be compared to us."

Reference: Al-Manaqib (al-Alawi), p. 124, Imam Baqir (a.s.) further said: "Indeed, we are the Ahl al-Bayt; no one can be compared to us. Whoever compares any human being to us has committed disbelief."

Reference: Nawadir al-Mu'jizat fi Manaqib al-A'immat al-Hudat, p. 267, Imam Baqir (a.s.) said to Jabir: "We are the Ahl al-Bayt; no one from among the people of the earlier generations or the later generations can be compared to us."

Reference: Ghurar al-Akhbar, p. 198, And it has been narrated with a chain of transmission reaching the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.): "We are the Ahl al-Bayt; no one among the servants of Allah can be compared to us."
