Consequences of Forsaking the Ziyaarat of Imam Husain (a.s.)

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Visiting the grave of His Eminence Abaa Abdillah al-Husain (a.s.) is such a divine obligation that forsaking it has not just been severely reprimanded in traditions rather its dire consequences in this world and the hereafter have also been mentioned.

Ibn Qulawayh narrates that Muhammad Ibn Abdillah al-Himyari narrated to me from his father from Muhammad Ibn Abd al-Hameed from Saif Ibn ‘Ameerah from Mansoor Ibn Haazim that we heard Imam Sadiq (a.s.) say:

“If a full year passes and one does not visit the grave of Imam Husain (a.s.) Allah will reduce a year from his lifespan. If I tell you that some of you will die 30 years before their destined time of death, then I have said the truth. This is due to forsaking the visitation (Ziyaarat) of Imam Husain (a.s.). Hence, never forsake his Ziyaarat. Allah will prolong your life and increase your sustenance. But if you forsake his Ziyaarat, then Allah will shorten your life and reduce your sustenance. So, encourage each other for visiting him and never forsake it. For surely, Imam Husain (a.s.) will himself bear witness on your behalf in front of Allah, His Messenger (s.a.w.a.), Her Eminence Fatima (s.a.) and Ameerul Momineen (a.s.).”

[Kaamil al-Ziyaaraat, chapter 61, p. 151, H. 2]

These were only the worldly consequences that one would face for intentionally omitting this Ziyaarat. As for the consequences in the hereafter, Ibn Qulawayh narrates that Muhammad Ibn Hasan Ibn Ahmad Ibn al-Waleed informed me from Sa’d Ibn Abdillah from Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Isa from his father from Saif Ibn ‘Ameerah from a man who narrated that Imam Sadiq (a.s.) says in this regard:

“Whoever does not visit the grave of Imam Husain (a.s.) and thinks that he is our Shia such that he dies in that state, he is not our Shia. Even if he is among the people of Paradise – i.e. even if he attains intercession and enters Paradise – he will be a guest of the people of Paradise – i.e. he will neither have his own place nor any position in Paradise.”

[Kaamil al-Ziyaaraat, chapter 78, p. 193, H. 3]

We pray to the Almighty Allah to grant every Shia of Imam Husain (a.s.) the honour of visiting his sanctified grave. Aameen, O Lord of the worlds!
