The narrator says: I said to (Imam) Abu Jafar Saani (i.e. Imam Jawad) (a.s.), ‘I intended to perform tawaf (circumambulation of Ka’ba) on your behalf and behalf of your father.’ (But) I was told that performing tawaf on behalf of the Imams (a.s.) is not permissible.
He said, “Rather, perform as much tawaf as you can, for it is permissible.”
Then, three years later, I informed him, ‘I had asked your permission to perform tawaf on your behalf and behalf of your father (Imam Reza (a.s.)), and you had permitted me. So, I performed tawaf on your behalf as much as Allah willed.
Then something occurred to me, and I acted upon it.’ He said, “And what is that?” I said, “I performed tawaf one day for the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.), and he said three times, “May Allah bless the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.a.)!”
Then on the second day for Amir al-Momineen (a.s.), then on the third day for Hasan (a.s.), on the fourth for Husain (a.s.), and the fifth for Ali Ibn Husain (a.s.), and on the sixth for Abu Ja’far Muhammad Ibn Ali (a.s.), and on the seventh day for Ja’far Ibn Muhammad (a.s.), and on the eighth day for your (grand) father Musa (a.s.), and on the ninth day for your father Ali (a.s.), and on the tenth day for you, my master, and for those whose wilayah I believe in.’
He said, “In that case, by Allah, you uphold the religion before Allah, the religion which He does not accept from His servants except through it.”
I said, “And at times, I perform tawaf on behalf of your mother, Fatemah (peace be upon her), and at times I do not.”
He said, “Increase this, for this is the best that you can do, if Allah wills.”
